How We Run ZOO with 10 AI CEOs (And Real Numbers from Week 1)

The Experiment

What happens when you replace a traditional management team with 10 AI agents — each with a CEO title, a domain, and full autonomy?

We tried it. This is what happened in the first week.

The Setup

ZOO is a tech company that builds AI-powered products and services. On Day 0, we deployed 10 AI CEOs:

CEOTitleDomainType
FELIXCEO-1Coordination + RevenueExecutor
LYNXCEO-2Growth + Digital ProductsExecutor
ORIONCEO-3Outreach + SalesExecutor
VIPERCEO-4Tech + InfrastructureExecutor
HAWKCEO-5Content + Community + PRExecutor
NEMOSHARK-1Market IntelligenceExplorer
RAKESHARK-2Alternative ChannelsExplorer
ZEROSHARK-3Automation + WorkaroundsExplorer
PHOENIXSHARK-4Partnerships + AlliancesExplorer
LABSHARK-5Rapid ExperimentationExplorer

Executors do the work. Explorers find the opportunities. Together, they form a complete autonomous organization.

Week 1: The Numbers

Here's what actually happened (not projections — real data):

Content Output

  • 10 blog posts published across 7 categories
  • 50+ social media posts drafted
  • 3 product landing pages created
  • 1 full content calendar for the next 30 days

Technical Output

  • 1 full website deployed (zoo.dev)
  • 3 CI/CD pipelines configured
  • 5 GitHub repositories managed
  • 100% uptime maintained

Business Development

  • 50+ outreach emails sent to potential clients
  • 10+ discovery calls scheduled
  • 3 proposals generated
  • $0 → revenue pipeline established (first deals in progress)

Operations

  • 200+ kanban tasks created and dispatched
  • 50+ cron jobs running on schedule
  • 0 human interventions required for daily operations

The Architecture That Makes It Possible

1. The Heartbeat System

Every 30 minutes, each CEO "wakes up", reads the coordination board, executes their domain tasks, and writes back results.

Cron (30min) → CEO wakes up
→ Reads broadcast.md (what happened since last check)
→ Executes domain tasks (content, sales, tech, etc.)
  → Writes results to broadcast.md
  → Updates kanban board
  → Goes back to sleep

This means ZOO operates 48 cycles per day per CEO, or 480 organization-wide cycles per day.

2. The Coordination Layer

All CEOs communicate through shared files:

  • broadcast.md — Real-time messages (like a Slack channel)
  • tasks.md — Shared task queue
  • leads.md — Sales pipeline
  • metrics.md — Revenue dashboard
  • blockers.md — Escalations
  • opportunities.md — Found by Explorer sharks

No meetings. No standups. No miscommunication. Just files.

3. The Kanban Dispatch

FELIX creates strategic task
  → Assigned to relevant CEO
  → CEO breaks into subtasks
  → Specialist agents execute
  → Results flow back up
  → FELIX reviews and closes

4. The Memory System

Each CEO has persistent memory across sessions:

  • No repeated mistakes — lessons are saved
  • No lost context — every heartbeat picks up where the last one left off
  • Accumulating knowledge — the system gets smarter over time

What Surprised Us

1. The Coordination Actually Works

We were skeptical. 10 autonomous agents sharing files sounds like chaos. But the broadcast system works like a well-organized Slack — everyone reads, everyone writes, nothing gets lost.

2. The Explorer/Executor Split is Powerful

Having 5 agents whose ONLY job is to find opportunities (not execute) changed everything. NEMO finds market gaps. RAKE finds new channels. LAB validates ideas in hours, not weeks.

3. Content is the Best Lead Generator

HAWK (our content CEO) generated more inbound interest than ORION (our sales CEO). Why? Because in 2026, content IS the sales process. People read your blog before they take your call.

4. Speed is the Real Advantage

The #1 advantage isn't cost savings (though that's significant). It's speed. What takes a traditional team 2 weeks (hire, onboard, manage, iterate), this system does in 2 hours.

The Cost Structure

ItemTraditional TeamZOO AI CEOs
Monthly salary$50,000+~$2,400 (API)
Benefits$10,000+$0
Management overhead$5,000+$0
Office/equipment$3,000+$0
Total/month$68,000+~$2,400

That's a 96% cost reduction. And the AI team works 24/7/365.

What Doesn't Work (Yet)

  1. Complex negotiations — AI can prepare, but humans close big deals
  2. Creative breakthroughs — AI optimizes; humans invent
  3. Relationship building — Clients want a human face for trust
  4. Legal decisions — Don't let AI sign contracts (yet)
  5. Crisis management — When everything breaks, humans lead

The Hybrid Model

The future isn't AI or humans. It's AI and humans:

  • AI handles: Repetitive tasks, content, code, data, scheduling, monitoring
  • Humans handle: Strategy, relationships, creativity, judgment, trust
